Beautiful one day, perfect the next….

I’m so enjoying the wonderful weather we are having at the moment here in Brisbane. Lovely and sunny, 25′C every day, cold overnight. It’s so different to what we would be having if we were still in Melbourne, my dad phoned at  1pm in the afternoon to say it was 7′C. So once again, I’m SO glad we moved.

Noise

I am surrounded by noise. We have workmen next door, raising a one storey house, to put another level underneath. They’ve been working on it for a month now. So all I hear all day is PFFT PFFT PFFT as nail after nail is fired from the nail gun. Last week I had a migraine. So, of course, they decided to get the chain saw out to cut down the tree outside my bedroom window. And then get out the mulcher and mulch said tree. AND THEN, how impolite, they brought in a stump grinder to get rid of any remains of said tree.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I just need some peace.

Four Things……….

I was tagged the other day by Catnip and Coffee, for the Four Things Meme. So here it is!

Four Jobs I’ve Held

  1. Computer Programmer – I HATED this. I am so grateful though, because this is where I met my wonderful husband.
  2. Computer repair and maintenance – this was a 3 day job, after 3 days I got offered the job above and I QUIT!
  3. Op-shop sales – Selling goods at a second hand store as a fundraiser for my daughter’s Girl Guides group, I purchased more stuff myself than I sold. Lots of lovely dress ups for my kids.
  4. Day child care – caring for someone else’s kids in my own home. It was great, except when a little 5 year old boy had pretend sex with my 5 year old daughter (fully clothes thank god, and she had no idea what he was doing). He said he was doing what Mummy and Daddy had been doing that morning. Lovely.

Four Movies I Could Watch Over and Over

  1. I’m with Catnip and Coffee, one of my favourite movies is You’ve Got Mail. I would LOVE to own a bookshop.
  2. Empire Records. It really reminds me of my early twenties, when this was the only movie I owned, and I watched it over and over and over and over…..
  3. Dirty Dancing. NO ONE PUTS BABY IN A CORNER.
  4. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The most bizarre kids movie ever, but I love it.

Four Places I Have Lived

  1. Melbourne, Australia.
  2. Newcastle upon Tyne, England
  3. New Forest, England (yes, in a caravan in the forest when my dad was out of work)
  4. Dallas, Texas, but only for 4 weeks!

Four TV Shows I Like

  1. C.S.I. Miami
  2. C.S.I (Las Vegas……)
  3. House
  4. Bones

Four Favorite Foods

  1. Lamb Korma
  2. Gnocchi Teresina
  3. Honey Chicken
  4. Greek Lemon Lamb (Lemonato Arni)

Four Places I would Rather Be

  1. Hawaii
  2. Hawaii
  3. Hawaii
  4. Hawaii

Four People I am tagging

This is going to be a delayed tagging, as I’m only new around here, so once I get a chance to know some of you, I’ll fill this in.

Mmmmmmm

What is it about Maltesers that make them so yummy? Is it the chocolate? Is it the malty crunch? I don’t know, but I’m a sucker for them. Bought a big bag at the shop today. There goes Weight Watchers again…….

That man!!!

What do you do if someone tells off your kids? I was in the grocery store, and Laney, my 3 year old, was climbing on the metal rails between the checkouts. I mean, everyone’s kids do this, and as long as she’s quiet while I unload the trolley, it doesn’t worry me. But the guy on checkout (His name tag read “Kevin – 20 years of service”) who was about 45, no wedding ring, said directly to my child, not to me “You have to get down from there or I’ll have to call a policeman”. I mean, that’s a bit much, isn’t it?

Are libraries still supposed to be quiet places?

Took my girls to the library today. They were being good for the first 20 minutes, but then Laney, the youngest had just had enough of the whole “Sshhhhh it’s a library” thing. She screamed the place down. Luckily mine wasn’t the only one acting up, another mothers children who were about 10 and 12 were having races up and down the aisles with the book trolleys. So I really didn’t feel all that bad about my 3 year old playing up.

Here are pictures of 2 happy faces.

Twitter

I’ve just joined twitter. It’s so much fun. It’s sort of like talking to a friend on the phone saying…. “I’m just going downstairs to put some washing on.” or in my case “Why do men fart so loudly and feel so proud of themselves when they do?”

It’s like having a conversation with the whole world. Or in my case, no one at all, as I have no followers. No friends. Boo hoo, poor me.

The manliness of it all……

Was reading this post from BooMama about unboxing, a new online trend. It is such a manly thing to do. My husband keeps a close eye on the number of kms our car has done. I will not even attempt to remember the name of that piece of car equipment. Anyway, there are always several yay’s or yippee’s from the drivers seat when a significant number is passed. A significant number can be one of four things.

  1. A number ending in lots of zeroes – eg: 43,000
  2. A number that is all the same – eg: 44,444
  3. A number that is alternating such as 43,434
  4. A number that is a palindrome such as 43,034 although this one is a bit harder to catch as it flies past.

There is also a mourning period of around 20 minutes to half an hour if one of these significant numbers goes past without being noticed.

Men. They think we’re the inscrutable ones.

My Tiny Dancer

My Tiny Dancer

My 2 girls decided last term that they wanted to do ballet. After outlaying the money for leotards, and ballet shoes, my eldest is now doing tennis. And my youngest is doing nothing.

But look how gorgeous she looks.
